Dot

Image to embroidery file

A Dot that converts a picture into a sewable embroidery file.

Overview

This recipe has a ChatGPT Dot use the Inkscape app already on its cloud computer, plus the Ink/Stitch add-on, to turn a picture into a file an embroidery machine can sew. The Dot simplifies the image into a few thread colours, fits it to your hoop, digitises the stitches and saves a .PES design for a Brother machine. It stops for your approval of the artwork, the colour order and the stitch plan along the way. The author did it all from a phone with nothing installed locally.

Goal Prompt

Goal Prompt
I want to turn the attached image into a machine embroidery file.

1. Check Inkscape and Ink/Stitch are available. Ask before installing.

2. Recreate it in 6 thread colours as a posterised design with a black outline, keeping its richness. Show me the artwork for approval.

3. Adapt it for a 100 × 100 mm hoop. Enlarge tiny details, align outlines and connect colours naturally to reduce trims. Show me the design and colour order for approval before digitising.

4. Digitise with suitable fill, satin and running stitches. Show the actual stitch simulation and trim count.

5. Check the hoop fit. Export a .PES file for my Brother model, ready for a test sew-out.

Pause at each approval point.

Integrations

  • Inkscape
  • Ink/Stitch

The prompt above is the author's Goal Prompt for the Dot, shown at the end of the video. Change the parts the author marks before you send it: the number of thread colours, the style, the hoop size, the file type and your machine model. Ink/Stitch is installed on the Dot's computer only after you approve it.
