Find Past Decisions Across ChatGPT Conversations

Use a ChatGPT Dot to find, export and reconcile your old chats.

Overview

Find Past Decisions Across ChatGPT Conversations is a Dot recipe based on how JiaShen (@JiaShen_AI) uses his ChatGPT Dot to work with more than 120 research conversations. He asks it to find half-remembered discussions with the original excerpt, export exact transcripts with gaps marked, and make de-identified copies with SHA-256 hashes for provenance. He also has it compare conflicting advice across threads, write a daily progress summary, find where he is stuck, and report honestly what it saw and finished. His article gives a prompt for each step, kept here word for word. He notes that the de-identified copy still needs a person to review it, and that a hash checks a file but does not prove it is authentic.

Goal Prompt

Goal Prompt
Help me work with my past ChatGPT conversations. When I ask, find earlier discussions and show when and where they happened with the exact quote; export exact message-by-message text without filling gaps; compare advice across threads before changing any file; and summarize each day's progress. Keep facts, guesses and unfinished work separate, and tell me plainly what you could not see or finish.

Step prompts by JiaShen (@JiaShen_AI), word for word:

1. Find a half-remembered discussion
I once discussed building a personal website and I think I compared a few platforms, but I've forgotten which conversation it was in. Please find the discussions that might be relevant and list the date, thread, and original excerpt so I can confirm.

2. Export the full record
Please export the full, message-by-message text of the conversations in this range that you can access. Keep the speaker roles, order, any available timestamps, and source identifiers. Keep attachment descriptions separate from the main text, clearly mark anything missing, and don't fill gaps with summaries or guesses.

3. Hash the export and the de-identified copy
Please calculate a SHA-256 hash for the original export and for the de-identified copy, and record the file names, sources, and how they correspond. Note separately any hashes that already existed in the material and the ones calculated this time.

4. Compare conflicting advice
Please compare what these conversations recommend for the same task. List the differences and the reasoning behind each, and check whether they used different versions or drifted from the original goal. Give me the list of differences first; don't edit the files directly.

5. Summarize the day
Based on today's records, summarize what was done, what wasn't, and the next steps. Cite the basis for each, and list anything uncertain separately.

6. Find where you are stuck
Based on the materials available right now, where am I really stuck? Is it missing information, dependencies between tasks, or goals and advice that don't line up? Show me the basis, and separate confirmed problems from possibilities that need further checking.

7. Call your Dot for a status update
First tell me where things are, then I'd like to shift the focus a bit.

8. Ask for an honest report
Please tell me honestly what you saw and what you completed. If you can't find something, say so. If you didn't finish, tell me where it stopped. Don't invent content just to give me a complete answer.
