Overview
readfirst stores the unwritten knowledge about a codebase, such as units used, columns another app depends on and tests to run after a change, in one map file kept beside the code. Before you or a coding agent edit a file, it lists what to watch for in that file: its rules, known risks, the tests to run and the code that calls it. It runs from your git checkout with no server, account or model calls. Setup can wire it into agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Gemini and add a pull request check.
