Overview
gitai is an open-source version control server for large numbers of coding agents working on the same branches. It is an independent build of a design Anthropic has described publicly, and the README states it has no affiliation with Anthropic. History questions such as blame and code search run on the server, clients fetch only the files they ask for, and a change is accepted by a compare-and-swap step rather than waiting in a queue. Conflicts can go to a resolver you choose, and a verify tool tests the branch tip and rolls back the change responsible for a failure.
Key features
- Server-side blame, path history and code search
- Sparse clones that fetch only requested paths
- Landing through compare-and-swap, batched per branch
- Conflicts go to a resolver of your choosing, whether a model, a fixed tool, or nothing
- Changeset log and a verify tool that bisects and reverts
- Per-agent tokens, call allowlists and branch policies
