It starts by checking that the software is yours or that you are allowed to examine it, studies how the feature behaves, and writes its own specification with pass/fail tests, marking every finding as confirmed, inferred or unknown. It does not copy code, assets or branding, and it builds only when you ask, checking the result against the original. It also says plainly when a rebuild is not worth doing, and it pauses after each phase so beginners can follow along. Check the original software's license terms first, since some forbid reverse engineering.
