Overview

Jan is a free, open-source (Apache 2.0) desktop app for chatting with AI models, built by Menlo Research. It is for people who want a ChatGPT-style assistant they control, including running a model on their own computer. You can download open models such as Llama, Mistral, Qwen, DeepSeek or Gemma, or connect cloud models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google. The project is developed in public on GitHub, and a memory feature is listed as coming soon.
